Arab and Islamic nations condemn Israeli plans for Gaza displacement
Eight Arab and Islamic nations—Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Jordan, the United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Pakistan, Indonesia, and Türkiye—have issued a joint condemnation of statements made by Israeli National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir and Defense Minister Israel Katz regarding the potential displacement of Palestinians from the Gaza Strip.
The foreign ministers described the proposed plans and mechanisms for forced removal as a “flagrant violation of international law and humanitarian law” and a direct threat to the inalienable rights of the Palestinian people. They warned that transforming such rhetoric into official government policy or practical measures would severely destabilize the region and undermine international peace efforts, specifically citing Donald Trump’s Comprehensive Plan, which rejects forced displacement.
The ministers emphasized that Gaza is an integral part of the occupied Palestinian territories and called for the preservation of territorial unity across Gaza, the West Bank, and East Jerusalem. They reiterated their support for a two-state solution based on the June 4, 1967, borders, with East Jerusalem as the capital. The group urged the UN Security Council and the international community to prevent the imposition of new demographic or geographic realities in the occupied territories.
This diplomatic backlash follows specific proposals, including Ben-Gvir’s ‘Disengagement 710’ plan, which aims to encourage the departure of approximately 1.86 million Palestinians from Gaza over a seven-year period, starting with 250,000 people in the first year.
