Eight new suspects identified in Maria Chindamo murder investigation
Eight new individuals have been placed under investigation by the Catanzaro District Anti-Mafia Directorate regarding the 2016 murder of entrepreneur Maria Chindamo. The suspects include Giovanni Capone, Vincenzo and Francesco Arceri, Tommaso and Antonino Biondo, Sasho Emilov Dimitrov, Davide Errigo, and Laurenthiu Georghe Nicolae. They face charges of premeditated murder aggravated by mafia methods, as well as the destruction and concealment of a corpse.
Chindamo disappeared on May 6, 2016, near her farm in Limbadi, Vibo Valentia. Investigators believe her body was disposed of using pigs and a tractor's rotary tiller. The investigation involves new biological and fingerprint analyses on previously seized evidence, including a rotary tiller with blood traces, a Mitsubishi Pajero, and various personal items.
A trial is currently underway in Catanzaro for Salvatore Ascone, 60, who is accused of helping plan and execute the crime alongside the victim's late former father-in-law, Vincenzo Punturiero. Prosecutors allege the motive was linked to the suicide of Punturiero's son following his separation from Chindamo, and that Ascone, acting as a representative for the Mancuso clan, sought to acquire the entrepreneur's land.
