Eight Sentenced for Drug Trafficking, Police Seize Illegal Alcohol in Argentina
Eight individuals linked to the "El Zaire" gang were convicted in Villa San Antonio, Argentina, receiving sentences of up to four years for drug trafficking. The case resulted from an investigation by the Unidad Fiscal contra la Narcocriminalidad (UFINAR) after an anonymous tip, leading to raids on six homes on 13 August that uncovered more than 500 doses of cocaine and marijuana, ammunition and other drug‑related items.
In a separate operation in the Edisur neighbourhood of Chubut, police and municipal authorities acted on a neighbour's complaint, seized a large stock of illegal alcoholic beverages—including beer, wine, fernet and spirits—as well as irregularly marketed medicines, and closed the dwelling used for the unlicensed sales. Municipal secretary Miguel Gómez said the authorities “se logró secuestrar toda la mercadería que era comercializada ilegalmente” and that the premises were shut down.
