Eight students left in France after school trip disciplinary dispute
Eight students from a Hungarian-language secondary school in Šahy, Slovakia, were left behind in Forbach, France, during a school trip to the United Kingdom. The students, six girls and two boys aged 15 to 17, were accompanied by one teacher while the rest of the group continued their journey home.
The decision was made by the trip organizer following allegations of inappropriate behavior on the final night of the trip. The organizer claimed the students repeatedly disturbed the peace by banging on hotel doors, leading to threats of police involvement from other guests. The organizer cited a prior agreement signed by parents stating that students could be excluded from the trip for serious disciplinary breaches, with parents responsible for return travel costs.
Parents have expressed shock and concern, stating the teenagers felt abandoned and were placed in a dangerous situation. They noted that the students' insurance expired at midnight, necessitating urgent action. The parents had to arrange and fund a replacement bus to collect the group via Frankfurt and Vienna. Legal representatives for the parents are currently investigating whether the organizer's actions constitute a criminal offense or a breach of obligation.
