EŞİK condemns privacy violation during Mersin police operations
The Equality for Women Platform (EŞİK) has issued a statement condemning the violation of privacy during police operations in Mersin. The controversy arose after footage was released to the press and social media showing a woman in her pajamas inside her home during a raid.
According to the platform, the woman requested that the recording be stopped, but the filming continued. EŞİK stated that the incident is not merely a recording but the “exhibition of a woman’s most private moments without her consent.” The organization argued that such practices ignore a woman's right to her own body and private life, characterizing the act as a tool of discipline and shaming within a patriarchal structure.
The operations in Mersin involved the detention of 59 individuals, including three mayors from the Mersin Metropolitan, Yenişehir, and Mezitli municipalities.
