Eirini Mourtzoukou trial for three infant deaths adjourned in Patras

The trial of 25-year-old Eirini Mourtzoukou at the Mixed Jury Court of Patras was adjourned on Friday, November 6, 2026, until November 12. The proceedings were interrupted following a request from the defense attorney, Nikos Alexandri, citing a conflict. The court has scheduled further hearings for November 19 and December 3.

Mourtzoukou faces charges of multiple intentional homicides in a calm mental state and attempted murder. The indictment involves the deaths of three infants between 2021 and 2023: a six-month-old child of a close friend in February 2021, her first child at 19 days old in June 2022, and her second daughter at two months old in October 2023. The defendant has reportedly made confessions regarding these cases.

During the hearing, a legal dispute arose when Mourtzoukou denied that Ioannis Mourtzoukos is her father, despite him being listed on her family status certificate. His lawyer, Othonas Papadopoulos, stated that he is appearing as a witness for the prosecution.

The trial was conducted under heavy police security due to high public interest. Protesters gathered outside the courthouse with banners honoring the deceased children. A separate criminal investigation regarding the death of a child named Panagiotakis in Amaliada is not part of this specific trial.
