Eismayer film depicts true story of Austrian military instructor
The film ‘Eismayer’ depicts the true story of Charles Eismayer, a Vice Lieutenant in the Austrian Armed Forces who was known as a particularly harsh instructor. The narrative follows his journey as he falls in love with one of his recruits, Mario Falak, and subsequently comes out as gay.
Directed by David Wagner, the film explores themes of homophobia within the military and society. It recounts how Eismayer became one of the first individuals to publicly disclose his homosexuality while serving in the Austrian military, eventually marrying his partner in uniform on a barracks courtyard.
