EiTB faces inquiries over AI impact on workforce

The political coalition EH Bildu has submitted inquiries to the management of EiTB, the Basque public broadcaster, regarding the impact of artificial intelligence on its workforce. The initiative, signed by parliamentarian Garikoitz Mujika, addresses concerns that the integration of AI into news production and editing processes could lead to the suppression of jobs for journalists, technical staff, and production professionals.

The inquiries seek clarification on whether EiTB uses AI algorithms for tasks such as selecting, recommending, summarizing, translating, or titling news content. Additionally, the coalition is requesting details on specific protocols for generative AI use, social protection mechanisms for affected staff, and whether the broadcaster informs the public when content has been created or modified by AI.
