EITB media contracts and leadership changes in Basque television

Itxaso Atutxa, the former president of the Bizkaia Buru Batzar for the PNV, has transitioned from politics to the audiovisual sector. In January 2025, she assumed a leadership role at Prime Time Media, a private production company with a significant presence on the Basque public broadcaster ETB2. Atutxa is the wife of PNV president Aitor Esteban.

An investigation by Hordago-El Salto highlights the financial relationship between EITB and a small circle of private production companies. Since 2013, approximately 96.7 million euros have been committed by EITB to four companies within this orbit. Prime Time Media has received 23.5 million euros for various programming and technical services, while related entities like Irusoin and Mixer Servicios Audiovisuales have also secured substantial contracts.

In a separate programming shift, EITB announced that Miriam Duque will replace Xabier Lapitz as the presenter of the current affairs program ‘En Jake’ starting in September. Duque, a veteran journalist from Radio Euskadi, is expected to lead a renewal of the program's format on ETB2 and ETB ON.
