Eğitim-İş celebrates 21st anniversary and announces 155,000 members

The Education and Science Workers' Union (Eğitim-İş) celebrated its 21st anniversary, marking its history from its roots in organizations like Encümen-i Muallim to its current role within the Kamu-İş Confederation. To commemorate the occasion, members visited Anıtkabir before attending anniversary events in Ankara.

During the celebrations, Eğitim-İş General President Kadem Özbay emphasized the union's commitment to public education and its independence from political structures. Özbay criticized current management styles that centralize decision-making and argued against the political and religious interference in education. He also criticized the current government for making education dependent on parental wealth.

In Antalya, branch president Sadık Acar reported that the union has reached 155,000 members. The union continues to advocate for secular and scientific education, workers' rights, school safety, and the prevention of child labor.
