Eiza González’s Star Wars Rejection Sparks Hollywood Breakthrough

Mexican actress Eiza González auditioned for a lead role in the new Star Wars trilogy. The secretive casting process, overseen by director J.J. Abrams, ended with the role of Rey going to British actress Daisy Ridley. Although González did not get the part, the experience proved pivotal: it helped her overcome a period of depression, prompted a move from Mexico to Los Angeles, and opened the door to her first international film projects, establishing her presence in Hollywood.

The audition was arranged after González’s mother created an online profile to contact agencies on her behalf. González signed confidentiality agreements and performed a test with a fake script before learning the true scope of the project. The exposure and industry contacts gained from the process accelerated her career trajectory.
