Ejidatarios protest at National Agrarian Registry in Michoacán
Representatives from several ejidos in Michoacán, including Morelia and Zinapécuaro, protested outside the National Agrarian Registry (RAN) offices in Morelia on Monday. The demonstrators are demanding transparency and faster processing of agrarian documents, citing a massive backlog of approximately 2,000 unresolved files.
Protesters reported that some cases have been pending since 2007, 2016, and 2021. Beyond the administrative delays, the demonstrators leveled serious allegations of corruption, claiming that individuals in San Isidro Itzícuaro were asked to pay 3,500 pesos for the delivery of their documents. They also accused the agency of losing official files and failing to register assembly minutes.
While some representatives acknowledged receiving professional treatment from the local head of the RAN, Margarito Fierros Tano, they emphasized that the lack of results remains the primary issue. The protesters have threatened to take their grievances to central offices in Mexico City if their demands for the removal of corrupt officials and the resolution of the backlog are not met.
