Ejisu Assembly members demand removal of MCE Jerryne Asante

Elected members of the Ejisu Municipal Assembly in the Ashanti Region are renewing calls for the removal of Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) Jerryne Asante. The assembly members claim that a presidential committee, chaired by Ashanti Regional Minister Dr Frank Amoakohene, indicted Asante for misconduct more than two months ago, yet President John Dramani Mahama has not acted on the findings.

Spokesperson George Kuntu Blankson, representing the Kwamo Electoral Area, alleged that Asante has been involved in several instances of mismanagement and misconduct. These include the misappropriation of assembly funds, collusion to issue fraudulent building permit receipts, and the use of official vehicles to facilitate extortion. The assembly members also accused her of undermining their authority by failing to enforce High Court orders and attempting to transfer the Municipal Finance Officer.

The standoff has led to significant tension within the local government. In July 2026, members attempted to pass a vote of no confidence but were reportedly denied access to the assembly auditorium. The 28 elected members stated they can no longer work with Asante and expressed frustration that their previous ultimatums and the committee's report have been ignored by the presidency.
