Ekaterina Alexandrova collapses in Memphis WTA match, 16‑year‑old Kristina Liutova advances

World No. 19 Ekaterina Alexandrova collapsed on court during her WTA 250 Memphis Tennis Classic match against 16‑year‑old Kristina Liutova. The third‑set contest, played in 34 °C heat, had lasted over three hours when Alexandrova fell and required medical assistance, ultimately retiring from the match and leaving the arena in a wheelchair.

Liutova was awarded the victory, marking her first tour‑level win and making her only the second player born in 2010 to triumph on the WTA Tour. She will face Australian Maya Joint in the round of 16.

The incident highlighted concerns about player safety in extreme temperatures and prompted immediate medical intervention on the court.
