EKD President expresses support for youth protesters

Anna-Nicole Heinrich, President of the Synod of the Evangelical Church in Germany (EKD), has expressed understanding for recent youth protests. Speaking at a press conference in Berlin ahead of the EKD Synod meeting in Würzburg, Heinrich stated that the protesters' demands are driven by concrete fears regarding the future.

She noted that it is legitimate for students to challenge politicians with questions and demands, even without immediate solutions. While acknowledging that small groups were involved in minor disturbances, she emphasized that these individuals did not represent the majority of protesters. Heinrich called on the church to take these concerns seriously and provide spaces for young people to voice their issues through youth work, schools, and social services.
