Ekiti Governor Awards Full Scholarship to World Spelling Bee Champion Damilola Adeolu

Ekiti State Governor Biodun Oyebanji presented a full scholarship to 14‑year‑old Damilola Adeolu, an SSS1 student who recently secured two gold medals at the World Spelling Bee championship in Shanghai, China. The scholarship will underwrite all of her educational expenses from SS2 through secondary school and university, include monthly allowances, and provide learning materials such as books and computers. In addition, the governor announced cash rewards of N2 million for Damilola, N2 million for her school, St Lawrence Metropolitan College, and N1 million for her coach.

Governor Oyebanji praised the achievement as a proud moment for Ekiti, Nigeria, and Africa, and pledged to facilitate meetings with the federal Minister of Education and the Office of the Wife of the President to further celebrate her success.
