Ekiti Governor Oyebanji presents legal issues as SDP candidate withdraws petition
The Ekiti State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal is currently hearing challenges regarding the June 20 governorship election. During the proceedings, the Social Democratic Party (SDP) candidate, Isaac Alade, filed a motion to discontinue his petition against Governor Biodun Oyebanji.
While the tribunal chairman, Justice Idris Kutigi, granted the application and removed Alade’s name from the petition, the SDP has stated it intends to continue the legal challenge despite the candidate's withdrawal.
In response to the ongoing petitions, Governor Oyebanji has formulated six specific issues for the tribunal to determine. These include whether the petitions are incompetent due to violations of the Electoral Act, the non-joinder of the APC as a necessary party, and whether the election was invalid due to non-compliance or corrupt practices.
