Ekiti State enforces waste disposal laws in Ado Ekiti
The Ekiti State Government has launched enforcement actions against improper waste disposal following resident complaints regarding offensive odors in parts of the state capital, Ado Ekiti.
A joint task force consisting of ministry officials and security agencies discovered that kitchen waste from a catch pit had been discharged into a public drainage channel in the Third Extension, GRA area. In response, the government has issued an abatement notice to the responsible resident and warned that further legal action will be taken under environmental laws to deter similar conduct.
Tosin Aluko-Ajisafe, the Commissioner for Environment and Natural Resources, stated that the government will not tolerate activities that pose public health risks or create environmental nuisances. She noted that the ministry has already made several arrests and prosecuted offenders as part of an ongoing effort to curb these practices.
