Ekiti State inaugurates aviation fuel depot and receives political caution
Ekiti State Governor Biodun Oyebanji has inaugurated a new aviation fuel depot at the Ekiti Agro-Allied International Cargo Airport in Ado-Ekiti. Developed through a partnership with Reeve Energy Nigeria Ltd., the facility is intended to support aircraft refueling and enhance commercial flight operations.
To further improve the airport, the state government is working to upgrade the Instrument Landing System (ILS) and install Aerodrome Ground Lighting, a project estimated to cost over N10 billion. These upgrades aim to enable 24-hour flight operations. Additionally, plans are underway for an Independent Power Project (IPP) to provide reliable electricity and reduce costs.
In a separate political development, President Bola Tinubu has cautioned Ekiti politicians against declaring interest in the 2030 governorship contest too early. Speaking via Senate Leader Senator Opeyemi Bamidele during Governor Oyebanji’s second-term inauguration, Tinubu warned that premature declarations could create unnecessary distractions and internal contradictions that might derail the state's governance.
