Amit Shah and Eknath Shinde hold key meeting in Mumbai
Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde held a 30-minute meeting at Sahyadri Guest House in Mumbai. The discussion occurred during Shah’s two-day visit to the city, which included addressing an event at the Asiatic Society and participating in a program by the Gems and Jewellery Export Promotion Council.
The meeting took place amidst heightened political sensitivity in Maharashtra due to the ongoing Maratha reservation movement. Activist Manoj Jarange has announced an indefinite hunger strike in Mumbai starting September 19. The leaders reportedly discussed administrative and policy coordination between the central and state governments, as well as political strategies for the Mahayuti alliance.
During a press conference in Mumbai, Amit Shah also addressed the Uniform Civil Code (UCC), stating his confidence that the UCC would be implemented in all 21 states led by the BJP-led NDA before 2029. The UCC aims to establish a uniform personal law for matters such as marriage, divorce, inheritance, and adoption, independent of religion.
