Ekobus Plovdiv manager resigns as €15 million smart traffic project proceeds

Municipal transport operator Ekobus – Plovdiv announced that its manager, Nikolay Stoev, has submitted his resignation for personal reasons. The Plovdiv Municipal Council is expected to consider terminating his contract and appointing an interim manager at its meeting on 3 August. Stoev’s departure comes as the company, which currently lacks buses, drivers and revenue, prepares to take over two city bus lines and to receive about €15.1 million in EU Regional Development Programme funding for a fleet of electric buses, a depot and charging infrastructure.

At the same time, the €15 million project to upgrade the city’s traffic‑management system is moving forward. The municipality opened the tender for designing and supervising the upgrade of traffic‑signal equipment at 20 intersections. Only one firm, Modeshift Europe AD, has submitted a bid, offering €84 000 (ex‑VAT) for the design work. If no deficiencies are found, Modeshift Europe will be awarded the contract, after which a separate procedure will be launched for the construction and equipment supply phases.
