Ekologistak Martxan calls for climate campaigns and agricultural reform
The Basque environmental association Ekologistak Martxan is calling for continuous institutional campaigns regarding climate change and a fundamental transformation of the agricultural model. The group advocates for moving toward more resilient agrarian systems characterized by greater crop diversity and agroecological practices to reduce vulnerability to heatwaves and droughts.
Ekologistak Martxan emphasized that while social awareness is necessary, responsibility cannot be placed solely on citizens. They noted that intensifying wildfires and the appearance of new marine species due to rising temperatures are signals of a process that can no longer be ignored. The association demands that institutions provide clear information based on scientific evidence and implement coherent policies involving emission reductions, energy and mobility transformations, and ecosystem protection.
