Ekstraklasa considers new broadcasting model for 2027–2031
The Polish Ekstraklasa football league is considering a significant overhaul of its television rights distribution for the 2027–2031 period. Currently, Canal+ holds exclusive rights to most matches, with TVP broadcasting one game per round.
Under a proposed new model, rights could be split into multiple packages to maximize league revenue. Reports suggest a structure involving several packages (A through C) that would allow different broadcasters or streaming platforms to hold rights to specific numbers of matches per round. This would move away from the current single-broadcaster model, potentially requiring fans to subscribe to multiple services to watch all league games.
Additional packages (E and F) would cover highlights and magazines. While the move aims to increase profits for the league, industry experts and traditional broadcasters have expressed concerns regarding the fragmentation of broadcasting rights.
