El Bierzo launches agrotourism initiative with Segittur

The Consejo Comarcal del Bierzo is partnering with Segittur to implement the Sustainable Innovation Model for Agrotourism Experiences (MISEA). This initiative aims to bridge the gap between the primary sector and the tourism industry by designing activities centered on agriculture, livestock, and local food production.

The project will initially involve a maximum of ten local companies, including wineries, cheese producers, and agricultural holdings. Unlike traditional rural tourism, MISEA focuses on participatory experiences where visitors engage directly in tasks such as grape harvesting or chestnut gathering. The final selection of participating businesses will be managed by Segittur.

Key objectives of the program include diversifying and de-seasonalizing tourism, providing complementary income for farmers and producers, and stimulating economic activity in villages to combat depopulation. Concrete proposals are expected to be ready between April and May 2027.
