El Calafate centennial and Lago Argentino anniversary proposed to Argentine Congress

National Deputy Ana María Ianni has introduced a resolution to the Argentine Chamber of Deputies to officially recognize and support two major historical commemorations scheduled for 2027 in El Calafate.

The first milestone is the centennial of the official foundation of El Calafate, occurring on December 7, 2027. The second is the 150th anniversary of the naming of Lago Argentino by Francisco Pascasio Moreno, which took place on February 15, 1877.

The proposal, co-signed by Deputy Juan Carlos Molina and other members of the Unión por la Patria bloc, seeks to declare the planned cultural, sporting, educational, and community activities of interest to the nation. The initiative includes the ‘Camino al Centenario’ (Path to the Centennial) program, which aims to organize a year-long series of events such as book fairs, film and dance activities, gastronomic encounters, and musical performances.
