El Callao amusement park closed after ride collapse injures seven
The Hermanos Ayala Amusement Park in El Callao, Bolívar State, has been indefinitely closed following the collapse of a ‘flying chairs’ ride on Saturday night, September 12. The structural failure resulted in at least seven injuries, including six minors.
Preliminary reports suggest the accident was caused by a mechanical failure in the central rotation axis or the metal support structure, causing the ride to detach while in motion. Victims suffered lacerations, contusions, and multiple traumas from impacting the ground and metal components. The injured were transported to local medical centers and the Juan Germán Roscio Hospital for specialized care.
Mayor Coromoto Lugo ordered the preventive closure of the facility, citing a lack of technical controls, insufficient preventive maintenance, and non-compliance with safety regulations. Local authorities and technical commissions have cordoned off the area to conduct investigations and determine operational responsibilities.
