Valencia celebrations face safety concerns due to housing protest camp
Preparations for the October 9th celebrations in the Valencian Community are facing logistical challenges due to a housing protest camp located in Valencia’s City Hall Plaza.
Pyrotechnic industry associations, including AEPIRO and PIROVAL, have expressed deep concern regarding safety guarantees for the scheduled 'mascletà' and an upcoming international fireworks symposium. They have called on the Government Delegation to ensure the public use of the plaza and warned of potential legal responsibilities if safety is compromised by the illegal encampment.
In response, the housing protest organization stated they have reached positive contacts with the Government Delegation to find solutions that allow official acts to proceed normally. Meanwhile, Miguel Barrachina, spokesperson for the Valencian Government, urged all parties to act with common sense, emphasizing that the regional holiday is a shared celebration and that the Government Delegation must ensure security so citizens can enjoy the traditional festivities.
