El Campín stadium tests facial recognition system

El Campín stadium in Bogotá is testing FacePass, an innovative facial recognition system designed to manage spectator access. The pilot program will take place during a Liga BetPlay match between Independiente Santa Fe and Deportivo Cali.

Developed by TuBoleta, the technology requires users to pre-register biometric data, validate their identity documents, and complete a facial capture with a liveness test to ensure authenticity. Once registered, fans can enter via biometric readers without needing physical tickets or QR codes. The initial test involves approximately 1,000 adult season ticket holders in the Oriental stand using four specialized turnstiles.

The implementation aims to enhance security and efficiency, particularly in managing high-attendance events and identifying individuals during incidents. The move follows past security concerns, such as pitch invasions, where traditional identification methods proved insufficient. If successful, the system may be expanded throughout the stadium to improve traceability between ticket purchasers and attendees.
