El Carmen mayor targeted in armed robbery

The mayor of El Carmen, José Reinel Contreras Yaruro, was the victim of a robbery while traveling on the road between Ocaña and Cúcuta.

During the incident, armed men disarmed the mayor's security detail and stole the vehicle assigned to him by the Unidad Nacional de Protección (UNP). The municipal administration clarified that the mayor was not detained or held against his will during the event and arrived safely in Cúcuta.
