El castillo series explores sexual exploitation in Spain

The new series ‘El castillo’ was presented out of competition at the San Sebastián Film Festival. Based on Mabel Lozano’s book ‘El proxeneta’, the six-episode series explores the progressive establishment of human trafficking networks for sexual exploitation in Spain, beginning in the late 1990s.

Created by Isabel Peña and Eduardo Villanueva, the series utilizes three different perspectives, including a pimp and agents from the UCRIF (Central Unit for Illegal Immigration Networks and Document Falsification). The narrative begins in 1999, coinciding with the construction of Spain’s first macro-brothel. The series is set to join the Movistar Plus catalog following its festival appearance.
