Argentina public sector unions engage in widespread salary disputes

Public sector workers across various Argentine provinces are engaged in intense salary negotiations and protests. In Tierra del Fuego, Governor Gustavo Melella and Education Minister Pablo López Silva reached an agreement with the SUTEF union. This deal includes not only wage increases but also a broader agenda covering educational financing, pedagogical strengthening, and worker health.

In contrast, negotiations in Entre Ríos have faced significant friction. Teachers rejected a 3.5% salary increase proposal, deeming it insufficient to offset inflation, leading to a scheduled follow-up meeting. Similarly, the provincial government is set to resume negotiations with the UPCN and ATE unions to address long-standing wage grievances.

Other labor tensions include university professors calling for a federal march due to lack of consensus on funding and wages, and municipal workers in El Cholar threatening road blockades over low base salaries. Judicial workers in Tierra del Fuego have also expressed dissatisfaction, citing inequitable budget distribution and a lack of real wage recomposition.
