El Corte Inglés and Academia Leonesa de Gastronomía announce cultural cycle
El Corte Inglés de León and the Academia Leonesa de Gastronomía are organizing a four-part event series titled “Lo que sabe León. Filandones de historia, cultura y gastronomía.” The sessions will take place on Wednesdays throughout November at 19:00 in the Ámbito Cultural classroom in León, Spain.
The initiative aims to revive the traditional spirit of “filandones,” which were historical gatherings around a fire where neighbors shared stories and knowledge during winter. The program features writers, researchers, and culinary professionals discussing the identity and history of Leonese gastronomy.
Scheduled topics include:
November 4: “Al calor de la cocina,” focusing on traditional cooking as a family center and the oral transmission of recipes, featuring José Luis Puerto and Francisco Javier Rúa Aller.
November 11: “De la necesidad a la abundancia,” examining the transition from post-war rationing and resourceful cooking to modern abundance, featuring historian Javier Revilla and chef María José Bayón.
