El Domund celebrates centenary of missionary support
El Domund, the World Mission Day initiative established by Pope Pius XI in 1926, is celebrating its centenary. The institution, which operates through the Pontifical Mission Societies, supports missionary work across 1,133 territories in 138 countries spanning Africa, America, Asia, and Oceania.
In the Navarre region of Spain, the tradition remains strong with 392 missionaries currently serving in 50 different countries. These individuals include various clergy members, such as cardinals and bishops, as well as 35 laypeople. The upcoming campaign, themed ‘One in Christ, united in mission’, aims to encourage prayer, raise awareness, and collect funds to sustain these efforts.
In terms of financial impact, the solidarity of Navarrese donors resulted in a collection of 491,760 euros in 2025, marking the fifth-highest amount among Spanish dioceses.
