El Hadji Diouf lacks formal role in Patrick Vieira’s Senegal staff

The official technical staff for the Senegal national football team, led by head coach Patrick Vieira, has been unveiled, notably omitting former captain El Hadji Diouf from formal roles. While Diouf holds a federal status as an ambassador for the Senegalese Football Federation (FSF), his specific responsibilities within the current organizational structure remain undefined.

Patrick Vieira has acknowledged Diouf as an important figure due to his deep knowledge of African football, but the coach has emphasized the need for all former internationals working with the squad to have clearly defined roles and responsibilities. The newly released staff list includes assistant coaches Mickaël Marsiglia and Issa Aïdara, video analysts, and media officer Babacar Ndaw Faye, but does not assign Diouf a position in the technical, management, or field mission departments.

Diouf has maintained his presence around the team, stating, ‘I am at home. I am Senegalese, a son of the country.’ The team recently played to a 1-1 draw in Maputo and is scheduled to face Ethiopia in Bahir Dar on September 29.
