Wrestler El Hijo de Fishman released after agreement in referee's death

Professional wrestler El Hijo de Fishman has been released from prison following a reparatory agreement with the family of referee Gerardo Germán Pineda, also known as ‘El Búho’. The incident occurred during a ‘Deslealtades’ wrestling event at the 11 de Julio Sports Center in Hidalgo, Mexico.

During a match between El Hijo de Fishman and Máscara Sagrada NG, the referee intervened after Fishman violated rules by removing his opponent's mask. In response, the 36-year-old wrestler performed a ‘contralona’ maneuver on the 75-year-old Pineda. While spectators initially believed the attack was part of the scripted performance, Pineda remained motionless and was later pronounced dead by medical personnel.

Fishman was initially detained on charges of involuntary manslaughter. His release on October 9 followed a settlement involving a payment of 586,000 pesos to the victim's family. The promoter, El Patrón Espectáculos, confirmed the legal resolution through its legal representatives, noting that the agreement concluded the criminal proceedings related to the incident.
