El Millón residents protest commercial encroachment and zoning violations

Residents of the El Millón sector in the Distrito Nacional are protesting the loss of the area's residential identity due to rapid and unregulated commercial expansion. The El Millón I neighborhood association reports that new commercial establishments and buildings are being constructed in violation of local zoning regulations.

Specific grievances include the opening of approximately 45 private schools within a small territory, the operation of food businesses, workshops, and scrap yards on sidewalks and streets, and the use of public roads as private parking for truck fleets. Residents also noted the presence of political party offices in the area. Despite multiple complaints to national and local authorities, neighbors claim that enforcement remains ineffective, citing instances where transit agents (Digesett) have failed to take appropriate action against violators.
