El Nacional ends print edition, goes digital in Dominican Republic

The Dominican Republic's evening newspaper El Nacional will publish its final printed issue on Friday, ending nearly six decades of paper circulation. The decision, announced by media outlet El Día, marks the closure of the country's only remaining evening daily.

From that point onward, El Nacional will concentrate its resources on its digital platform, aiming to strengthen online coverage and adapt to the rapid shift toward real‑time news consumption via smartphones, social media and other digital channels. The move reflects a broader transformation in the global journalism industry, where many publishers are reducing or abandoning print operations in favor of digital models.
