El Pangui inaugurates Cayamatza Bridge and boardwalk

The Cayamatza Bridge and boardwalk have been officially inaugurated in the El Pangui canton, providing critical infrastructure for the Ecuadorian Amazon. The project aims to improve road connectivity between the provinces of Zamora Chinchipe and Morona Santiago, benefiting over 12,000 residents, commuters, and traders.

The new bridge measures 33 meters in length and 10.30 meters in width, featuring 1.50-meter pedestrian walkways on both sides to enhance safety. The project replaces a previous structure that was destroyed by river flooding in 2018.

Total investment for the combined works—which include the bridge, the Cayamatza boardwalk, and the relocation of the electrical grid—amounts to approximately USD 1,671,870.55. The bridge construction specifically involved a joint investment of over USD 1 million between the Municipal Government of El Pangui and Ecuacorriente S.A. (ECSA), the operator of the Mirador mine. The boardwalk, covering more than 2,000 square meters, includes recreational areas, green spaces, and public lighting.
