El Paso authorities arrest woman for transporting 72 exotic animals
Kelli Pinnock, 48, was arrested and faces five counts of animal cruelty after El Paso County Sheriff's Office deputies discovered 72 exotic animals being transported in inhumane conditions along Interstate 10.
During a traffic stop on October 22, officials found 56 tortoises, 11 hedgehogs, two kinkajous, two guinea pigs, a caracal, and another exotic wild cat. Investigators reported that many animals were confined in undersized or overcrowded containers, lacked adequate ventilation, and had insufficient access to food and water. Feces and urine accumulations were also noted within the vehicle.
Authorities stated that Pinnock had traveled through multiple states with the animals and identified potential licensing violations. The investigation also noted restrictions related to a previous animal cruelty arrest in Florida. Federal wildlife authorities have been notified to determine if further violations occurred. The animals were surrendered and transferred to facilities capable of providing necessary care.
