El Paso County declares emergency after severe flooding
El Paso County has declared a local emergency following severe storms and heavy rainfall that caused significant flooding in the Horizon City and Dawnlight areas. The flooding, which followed several days of intense precipitation, resulted in water rushing into residential streets and homes.
In the Dawnlight area, approximately 16 households were evacuated. Emergency crews and the Red Cross assisted displaced residents, while Sun Metro provided transportation support. Officials reported that while a vehicle rescue was required on South Desert Boulevard, no injuries have been reported.
The flooding also caused infrastructure damage, including a washed-out water main in the Desert Aire and Anthony areas, leading to service disruptions and low water pressure. El Paso Water deployed vacuum trucks to manage standing water, and the city's Emergency Operations Center was elevated to Level 3, Increased Readiness.
