A YouTube channel called Fourth Place uploaded a video on July 13 titled “El Paso: America's Largest Downtown Ghost‑town,” describing Downtown El Paso as a mostly abandoned area and showcasing historic buildings and past activity.

Local residents and online commenters dispute the portrayal, pointing to bustling sidewalks, a revived Plaza Hotel, the Plaza Theater, Southwest University Park, San Jacinto Plaza and a new children’s museum. One comment praised the Plaza Hotel as “an absolutely stellar deco era restored hotel… world class,” while another noted “Downtown always has people in it, especially the weekends,” arguing the video shows only the negative side of the picture.
