El Paso Electric names Eliecer Viamontes as new CEO
El Paso Electric has announced a leadership transition following the retirement of President and CEO Kelly Tomblin. Tomblin, who has led the company since 2020, will officially retire on November 9. She will remain with the utility in an advisory capacity through the end of the year to ensure a seamless transition.
Eliecer “Eli” Viamontes will succeed Tomblin as President and CEO on November 9. Viamontes, 42, brings over 20 years of experience in the electric services industry and most recently served as the CEO and President of the Board at Entergy Texas.
Viamontes stated that his focus will be on providing secure and reliable energy while making necessary investments to strengthen the region. A key challenge for the new leadership will be balancing system-wide infrastructure investments with customer affordability, particularly as rising temperatures and company spending programs have contributed to increased electricity bills in the border region.
