El Paso man arrested for DWI after crashing into sidewalk barrier

A 40-year-old man, identified as Edgar Amaya, was arrested in El Paso County after driving a Can-Am Maverick into a pedestrian sidewalk barrier during the early hours of Saturday, August 22.

According to the El Paso County Sheriff's Office, the vehicle was traveling north on a paved sidewalk adjacent to the road when it struck a pipe barrier intended to restrict vehicular access. The collision resulted in serious injuries to the vehicle's front-seat passenger, who was transported to a local hospital. Amaya faces charges of driving while intoxicated (DWI) and was held at the county detention center with a $5,000 bond.
