El Paso unveils first phase of Pellicano Drive widening project

El Paso County has officially unveiled the first phase of the Pellicano Drive Widening Project. The three-mile construction project stretches from Loop 375 to Darrington Road and features six lanes, raised medians, bike lanes, new traffic control equipment, and a drainage pond for improved water management.

The project has faced significant delays since its original 2019 start date, which had a projected completion of 2022. One major setback occurred in March 2023 when the original contractor, J. A. R. Construction, filed for bankruptcy. As of April 2025, approximately 50% of the work had been completed.

The Camino Real Regional Mobility Authority (CRRMA), which oversaw the project design, reported in September that Phase One is ahead of schedule, with a completion deadline set for December.
