US Midterm elections: Early voting begins across multiple states

Early voting has commenced across several U.S. states, including Texas, Arkansas, Alaska, Connecticut, and South Carolina, for the 2026 midterm general elections. In Texas, which has reached a record 19 million registered voters, the election cycle is marked by highly competitive races.

The Texas Senate race is currently a toss-up between Democrat James Talarico and Republican Ken Paxton. Talarico has seen increased support, particularly among Latino voters citing economic concerns, while Paxton maintains strong backing from party loyalists. Additionally, the Texas gubernatorial race features Democrat Gina Hinojosa holding a slight advantage over incumbent Republican Greg Abbott.

Nationally, the midterms will determine all 435 seats in the House of Representatives and one-third of the Senate. Voters will also decide on more than 140 ballot initiatives across 40 states, covering topics such as abortion rights, voter identification, and constitutional amendments.
