El Preferido de Palermo restaurant bill sparks debate over dining costs

A dining receipt shared on Google Maps by a visitor to El Preferido de Palermo has ignited social media discussion regarding the cost of eating out in Buenos Aires. The bill, totaling $477,000 for a group of six people, detailed various items including three milanesas at $59,000 each, nine Patagonia beers at $12,000 each, and various sides and appetizers.

The restaurant, located at the corner of Jorge Luis Borges and Guatemala, is a well-known establishment managed by entrepreneur Pablo Rivero and chef Guido Tassi. The viral receipt has brought renewed attention to the economic reality of the gastronomic sector in the city.

According to data from the Buenos Aires Statistics and Census Institute (Idecba), food and beverage services prepared outside the home saw a 2% monthly increase in September. For the first nine months of the year, the sector has seen a 20.6% increase, with a year-on-year variation of 32.2%, closely following the city's general Consumer Price Index.
