El Salto dam fishing season to resume in Elota on September 1

The fishing season at the Ing. Aurelio Benassini Vizcaíno “El Salto” dam in Elota is scheduled to begin on September 1. This marks the return of fishing activities following a two-year hiatus.

During the third meeting of the Fisheries and Aquaculture Resources Administration Council, officials approved regulations for the 2026-2027 season. These agreements include specific catch quotas per member, designated fishing hours, authorized fishing gear, and mandatory sanitary measures to ensure sustainable resource management.

Flor Emilia Guerra Mena, Secretary of Fisheries and Aquaculture, stated that the agreements were well-received by the Council. The reopening of the dam is expected to strengthen local family economies and revitalize tourism through sport fishing tournaments.
