El Salvador Activates Vacation 2026 Civil Protection Plan

El Salvador's National Civil Protection Commission announced the activation of the “Plan Vacación 2026,” a coordinated safety operation running from 1 to 9 August. The plan mobilises more than 100,000 personnel from the civil protection system to oversee religious, cultural, recreational and tourist activities during the August holidays.

The operation will deploy 342 lifeguards across 34 beaches, six recreational parks and two lakes, supported by 180 monitoring points for rapid emergency response. Vehicle checks, traffic management, road safety education and inspections of public transport are also included. Specialized teams will provide pre‑hospital care on major highways, while inspections will cover hotels, restaurants, gas stations and other commercial venues for fire safety and evacuation readiness. Director Luis Alonso Amaya said, “All institutions will remain activated to guarantee the safety, well‑being and peaceful coexistence of the Salvadoran population and visiting tourists.” Vice‑minister of Transport Nelson Reyes highlighted the dual goal of preventing tragedies and ensuring lawful travel, and Health Minister Francisco Alabi noted that the Integrated Health System will allocate roughly 19,000 resources to respond to any emergencies during the vacation period.
