El Salvador and Ecuador deepen bilateral cooperation across security, trade and migration

El Salvador and Ecuador reaffirmed the strength of their bilateral relationship during a virtual fourth meeting of their Political Consultation and Coordination Mechanism. Vice foreign ministers Adriana Mira and Alejandro Dávalos led the talks, which covered cooperation in security, development, commerce, technical assistance, culture, tourism and migration.

Both sides pledged to enhance joint actions against transnational threats such as drug trafficking and arms smuggling, and to exchange best practices on violence prevention through initiatives like the Urban Wellness and Opportunities Centers (CUBOS). They highlighted ongoing technical‑scientific cooperation projects in agriculture, livestock, aquaculture, forestry, food industry and solid waste management, and agreed to expand these under a new work framework.

The governments also committed to boost trade and investment, accelerate an air services agreement to improve connectivity, and promote safe, orderly migration as “World Migration Pact Champions.” Cultural, artistic and academic exchanges were affirmed as further pillars of the partnership.
