El Salvador and Italy ratify reciprocal driving license agreement

The Legislative Assembly of El Salvador has ratified an agreement with the Government of Italy regarding the reciprocal recognition and conversion of non-provisional driving licenses. The agreement, originally signed in Rome on June 19, 2026, aims to facilitate mobility for citizens residing in either nation.

Under the terms of the treaty, Salvadorans living in Italy and Italians living in El Salvador will be able to convert their driving licenses without the need to undergo additional theoretical or practical exams, except in special circumstances where authorities may request further verification.

This measure is intended to simplify administrative processes, reduce costs, and facilitate labor insertion for individuals who require a vehicle for work. The agreement includes technical annexes detailing license models, equivalence tables, and protocols for the transfer of personal data.
